CANVAS + CLAY STUDIO Dale Lowtrip will show his whimsical ceramic art collection in the Floyd Bettiga Gallery at the Morris Graves Museum of Art (636 F Street). Lowtrip, a 78 year old resident of Arcata, has been creating his Humboldt inspired animal sculpture at Canvas + Clay Studio for 12 years. His art background and interest in animals spans back farther, as he took art and wood shop classes in high school, does carpentry and art in his spare time, and worked at the HSU Forestry Lab for nearly 40 years. Lowtrip’s process is painstaking. He uses small carving tools to make hundreds of deliberate etchings into the surface of his sculptures. This creates a texture that simulates fur and feathers, but is actually composed of tiny drawings featuring flowers, birds, people, and more.

HUMBOLDT ARTS COUNCIL 636 F St. Sponsored by Redwood Capital Bank. Performance Rotunda Music by The Bayou Swamis, Cajun/Zydeco dance music with swampy delta originals - great for dancing! William Thonson “Pulses of Experience, Exploring the Psychology of Flight or Fight,” Seongmin Yoo. The life-size, dynamic figures within Seongmin Yoo’s newest exhibition capture the intense physiological moment of attentive immobility, a reaction that premeditates a fight or flight response.  Tom Knight Gallery “Artemis: vision of the Universe,” Seongmin, this painting series, Artemis: Vision of the Universe, reflects Seongmin Yoo’s long-standing exploration of imagined cosmic worlds. The artist creates spaces beyond immediate human experience, presenting unknown planets, shifting landscapes, and life forms that may exist somewhere beyond Earth. Through color, light, and atmosphere, each work opens a sensory landscape that invites viewers to move beyond the familiar and interpret the unknown through feeling and imagination. Anderson Gallery “Twin Flames,” Peggy Loudon & George Bucquet.  “Twin Flames,” celebrates a rare milestone: thirty-five years of shared inspiration and mastery between ceramicist Peggy Loudon and glass artist George Bucquet. Like two flames dancing in tandem, their distinct mediums—clay and glass—converge in this exhibition to explore the harmony of form, light, and texture. This collection is more than a display of technical brilliance; it is a visual dialogue between two lifelong friends who have spent decades pushing the boundaries of their respective crafts while remaining anchored in a shared artistic soul. Floyd Bettiga Gallery “Dale Lowtrip Ceramics,” Lowtrip’s ceramics are the product of a 12-year tenure at Canvas + Clay Studio, characterized by a meticulous approach to texture and form. Through the use of specialized tools, Lowtrip creates hundreds of individual incisions to simulate the organic appearance of plumage and fur. This collection of whimsical, Humboldt-inspired animals and creatures represent a landmark moment for the artist and the regional community. Permanent Collection Gallery “From the HAC Collection-Morris Graves,” In a baby book, Graves’ mother recorded his first word as “see.” In looking at a life of work, it seems that this is what he has asked himself and us as viewers to do all along- to see, to look beyond the surface of the objects and catch sight of their inner nature. This exhibition invites the viewer to explore the work of Morris Graves from the HAC Permanent Collection and to see glimpses into a world of natural harmony and ethereal beauty. The HAC Permanent Collection Gallery will rotate works from the collection that are only exhibited occasionally.
